about
The site willyorskovarchive.com documents Danish artist Willy Ørskov’s (1920-1990) works, with a specific focus on his so called pneumatic or inflatable sculptures
Willyorskovarchive.com is part of a research project initiated by art historian Philip Pihl and Sorø Kunstmuseum in 2023.
In 2012 Sorø Kunstmuseum showed an exhibition of pneumatic sculptures organized by Ørskov’s widow Grethe Grathwol. After the exhibition Grathwol donated a large number of pneumatic works to the museum. As part of a the current research project these works and their condition have been thoroughly documented. More than 50 pneumatic works have been obtained in the museum’s collection. A peer reviewed article on the works by Philip Pihl published by Perspective Journal is also part of the project.
Many people have collaborated on this project. A special thank you to Ørskov’s heirs for allowing the use of the material published on the site and to Bianca D’Alessandro managing the Ørskov estate. Also thank you to Thomas Bagge for digitalizing and caring for Ørskov and Grathwol’s archive.
The project has been made possible through financial support from New Carlsberg Foundation.
